  • Dr. Sonia Namir

    A respected author of books for children and youth both in Arabic and English, Sonia Nimr holds a PhD in Oral History from Exeter University and currently teaches at Bir Zeit University, Department of Cultural Studies. She co-wrote the titles 'A Little Piece of Ground', an English Young Adult novel, and 'Ghaddar the Ghoul' and in 2004 was on the Honours List of the International Board on Books for Young People, (IBBY), and she renominated for 2014.

  • Dr. Hala Hammad

    An expert and acclaimed specialist in early childhood development and parenting. Dr Hala Hammad, has been involved in several projects to promote literacy and children's literature in Jordan. She frequently lectures on the topic of children's literature and has held numerous awareness sessions for mothers on the importance of reading.

  • Joanna El Mir

    Joanna El Mir

    Joanna El Mir has an MA in Art Direction from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA). In 2001 she joined Samir Editeur as an Art Director and later going on to take on the role of Children's Books Editor in 2008. In 2006 she was selected by the British Council in Lebanon to compete for the Young Publishing Entrepreneur award at London Book Fair. Having won the award, she trained in the editorial and rights departments at Puffin and Bloomsbury Children's Books in London, and back in Beirut organised a creative writing workshop on teenage fiction for aspiring writers with author Mal Peet. She is also a frequent speaker at a speaker at the London Book Fair, ALBA and with the Lebanese chapter of SCBWI (Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators).

  • Naser Nasrallah

    Naser Nasrallah

    Nasir Nasrallah is the Vice Chairman of the Emirates Fine Arts Society and has shown his work in several exhibitions, including two solo exhibitions. He has illustrated several children's books and wrote and illustrated Abdjad Hawaz Fann. He has frequently served on the jury of the Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Award for Children's Creativity and conducted a number of workshops. In 2012, he set up his publishing house, Al-Marsam Al-Sagheer in 2012.

  • Tessa Strickland

    Tessa Strickland

    Tessa Strickland is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Barefoot Booksan independent publisher that specialises in carefully crafted children's books, CDs, games, puppets, puzzles and gifts that celebrate enduring values and inspire creativity. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, she started her career in publishing at Penguin Books where she ultimately held the position of Managing Editor of the Viking list. She then joined Random House as Editorial Director of the Rider list, before going on to found Barefoot Books.
