Book Overview

Maryam is surprised by her father's decision to immigrate to Georgia, which turns her life upside down. She faces many obstacles on her journey from Damascus to Georgia, starting with riding the death boats until she arrives in Georgia. In Georgia, things are not better, but she faces new obstacles, a new language and culture, in addition to the lack of acceptance from her colleagues, especially Tamara, who seizes every opportunity to bully her. Maryam tries with her kindness to remove the obstacles from the way so that she can adapt to the new country while preserving her culture

About Author

Lamis Khadija Asali is a writer for children and young adults who currently resides between Georgia and Palestine. Lamis studied creative writing under the distinguished writer Maria Daadoush and Professor Mohamed Tawfiq. Lamis then began teaching creative writing to students from all over the world, and thousands of writers and illustrators follow her workshops. She worked as an editor for Alia Publishing and Distribution House for two years and now works as a freelance editor. She founded a column on the Baqja website for families and published various articles on it that dealt with thorny topics such as loss and suicide. She also founded the free, voluntary electronic magazine Qanadeel in 2018, believing that knowledge is for everyone and that Qanadeel stories should light up homes and reach every home regardless of their financial status. Lamis is a strong advocate for the rights of children and young adults, and uses her books to provide them with tools to use to adapt to the various problems they face, and her books also provide solutions. Lamis has also published more than forty stories and novels, both in print and electronic, as well as plays that have been performed in various Palestinian schools. Lamis has new stories in the works that will soon be published with prestigious publishing houses. Her story Shihab Million, which she wrote with writer Nancy Abdel Raouf, was shortlisted for the Etisalat Award 2023.
