The book is a biography of the city of Jerusalem, its people, and of the book's author who is a son of Jerusalem. In the book there is an elaboration of the narrative techniques that are used to showcase his relationship with the city since childhood through youth till his return from an 18-year exile, and then his resumption of life in the city. In the book attention is paid to the holy sites in the city. It also contains an intense narrative of the city's suffering during the 1948 Palestinian Nakba [catastrophe], and the defeat of June 1967. The book describes the oppression of the author by the Israeli occupation authorities, his arrest and exile due to his defense of the Arab identity of Jerusalem, and his strong attachment to his homeland. In the book there is a narrative of the city's biography through the people, the city's people, and a narrative of people's stories through their city in such a way that keeps Jerusalem present in the minds of the young generations of girls and boys.
